Posted In: US budget cuts 1 billion in STD prevention

The results of the recent budget negotiations are out: (pdf, use "Save as")

On page 6, one can find that "HIV AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention" is being reduced by 1 billion dollars, although it's not clear where exactly the cuts are being made. The total budget of "National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention" (it's part of CDC) is about 1 billion dollars, but I doubt that it was closed completely, so the cuts should be made somewhere else as well. Any ideas where and what that will mean for the HIV field?

Looks like that was a mistake: "Congressional staffers working quickly to summarize the 400-plus page budget deal accidentally cut $1 billion in AIDS and STD prevention funding from a document posted on the House Appropriations Committee website Tuesday morning." The full Politico article is below:

it seems the cuts are not as bad as expected

"For the National Institutes of Health, the final agreement means a cut of roughly 1% from its current $31 billion budget..."

it will depend where the NIH decides to cut that percent off...
